Helmets

Please note that the following recommendations are a starting point and do not replace personal advice from a sporting goods store.

Measure your head correctly:
The starting point for selecting the right size is measuring the circumference of your head, a finger width above the eyebrows. In many stores, dealers will have head-measuring tapes available. The head size range is given in cm on the sticker on the back of the helmet.

Fitting:
Try on several helmets if possible – you will notice a difference in the fit right away! It is important that the helmet noticeably encloses your head. Make sure that the helmet sits comfortably and firmly with its inlaid comfort cushions, but is not too tight.

Correct positioning:
Make sure that the helmet is positioned levelly on your head. The helmet should not sit too far back on your head, which leaves the forehead unprotected, nor be pulled too far down over the forehead, where it can affect your vision.

Adjust the size properly:
With the adjustable sizing system (IAS system), you can fully customize the size of your helmet. To do so, place the helmet in the proper position and turn the dial at the back of the helmet – clockwise to make the helmet tighter, counterclockwise to make it looser.

The helmet should basically fit. The size adjustment should only be for fine tuning. Athletic and racing helmets are manufactured in individual sizes, because a precise fit is very important for these sports.

Firm fit:
You can test if your helmet sits firmly by shaking your head lightly with the chinstrap open. The position of the helmet should not change! An optimum fit is required for the helmet to fulfill its safety function 100%.

Adjusting the strap system:

  • Remove the comfort cushion on the chinstrap.
  • Close the ratcheted closure.
  • Set the length of the chinstrap by pulling on the outer strap. The chinstrap should fit tightly, but should not hinder your breathing or swallowing!
  • Reattach the comfort cushion.

Please note that the following recommendations are a starting point and do not replace personal advice from a sporting goods store.

Fitting: Try on several cycling helmets if possible. It is important that the dimensions of the helmet fit the size of your head and that the helmet noticeably encloses your head. The fine tuning is done with the strap and IAS system.

Correct positioning: Make sure that the cycling helmet is positioned levelly on your head. The helmet should not sit too tightly on the back of your head, which leaves the forehead unprotected, nor be pulled too far down over the forehead, where it can affect your vision.

Adjust the size properly:

a) Position the strap joints (fixed point where the two straps come together) so that the strap does not touch the ears.

b) When adjusting the strap joints, pull the straps on the left and right sides separately to get the correct length. The length of the straps in the closure system must be adjusted so that they both lie tautly under the chin.

c) The length of the straps is set correctly when both straps lie tightly on the head without cutting into it.

d) If the straps are too long, cut off the excess ends (approximately 1.5 inches should stick out). Carefully heat the ends of the strap with a match to prevent fraying. Please note that the ends of the straps may be of different lengths due to the individual adjustment.

To do so, place the helmet in the proper position and turn the wheel – clockwise to make the helmet tighter, counterclockwise to make it looser. An helmet must always be replaced after a fall or collision! The impact forces on your head during a fall are absorbed by the helmet. In another impact in the same location, the helmet can no longer fulfill its protective function 100%. Please note that – depending on the force and angle of impact – the helmet can even break, and should do so in order to keep the impact forces away from your head.

All components of a helmet are subject to ageing, depending on handling, maintenance, and degree of wear, which depends on the intensity of use and the specific conditions of use. Under optimum storage conditions (cool, dry, protected from daylight; no contact with chemicals; no mechanical crushing, pressure, or stress) and without use, the maximum lifetime is 8 years following the indicated date of production. This should not be exceeded in use, even if the product is in a visually good condition. For reasons of safety, we recommend our helmets are replaced 3-5 years after initial use, depending on the intensity of use.
You can find the date of manufacture either as a calendar clock or as a sticker on the inside of the helmet. The year of manufacture is at the centre of the calendar clock. The arrow points to the month of manufacture.

Please remove the comfort cushions in the IAS system and in the cycling helmet. These can be washed with a mild detergent at 30°C. Dry the comfort cushions at room temperature. The cycling helmet should be cleaned with lukewarm water and a mild soap solution. Do not use solvents (e.g. paint thinner).

The IAS system is a size adjustment system which can be used to adapt the cycling helmet individually to any head shape. The free-floating design of the ring system provides optimum adjustment, simple use, and maximum ventilation. The setting is made with the wheel located on the back of the cycling helmet – clockwise to make the helmet tighter, counterclockwise to make it looser.

All uvex lifestyle eyewear is already equipped with specially coated lenses as part of their basic design. Independent of the lens color, they contain a UV filter that protects 100% against harmful UV radiation. uvex = ultraviolet excluded.

Individual light conditions and areas of use require different lens types. For example, uvex Polavision lenses eliminate reflections and provide especially comfortable vision, uvex dégradé lenses offer perfect glare protection above and optimal vision below, thanks to the gradient which lightens towards the bottom. You can find detailed information on all lenses on this website at uvex cycling glasses technology.

The common feature of all uvex lenses is the integrated UV filter, which protects against harmful rays with 100% certainty.

Please clean the lenses of your eyewear only with water and a mild soap.

Do not use a dirty or rough cloth. Eyewear marked with supravision have an anti-fog coating on the inside. This coating is sensitive to scratching, therefore you should handle the inside very carefully and not wipe it off.

Store your eyewear in the case provided and protect the product from extreme temperature changes during storage.
