How do I store my helmet?
It’s not only the weather and sweat that take their toll on helmet materials when cycling, skiing, and horseback riding. The helmet can also be damaged afterwards if stored in direct sunlight or a damp environment.
A few tips for storage
Checking the condition
Before storing or packing the helmet away, make sure that the surfaces and padding are clean and, more importantly, dry – otherwise mold may appear.
A cool, dark place
The helmet should be stored in a cool, dark place, so that it’s protected from sunlight. Careful: UV rays can have a negative impact on product characteristics. The rear deck of a car is therefore not a suitable storage location.
Textile bag
A textile bag such as the uvex helmet bag is the ideal form of storage. Pack it up and store it in a cool, dark place.
Solvents
Careful: do not store the helmet at a location where it could come into contact with solvents such as turpentine or brush cleaners. These solvents also have a negative impact on product characteristics – primarily on the shock-absorbing EPS material.
