uvex and Ingrid Klimke: a fit so good that sponsoring has become a matter of the heart. In 2020, Ingrid Klimke and sports outfitter uvex will be celebrating 10 years of partnership. It’s been a fruitful collaboration, and not only in terms of sport.
“I’m quite proud of our long, close partnership. uvex stands for reliability, safety and trust, both for me and for my entire team. We are proud that uvex is protecting us. I am proud to be #protectedbyuvex!” writes the woman who, more than any other equestrian athlete, represents fairness and authenticity. Olympian medallist, World Champion and European Champion – Ingrid Klimke has celebrated stellar sports victories over the past decade, in partnership with uvex. The reigning European champion is an absolute guarantee of a medal for the German eventing team. But that’s not all – with her stallion Franziskus, she’s near the top in dressage world rankings. This exceptional athlete has recently won a spot on the German Olympic dressage team as well.
But that’s not all that makes this partnership so special. With initiatives like “Helmhelden” and support for the organisation Pink Ribbon Germany, it’s clear that, for both parties, it’s more than simply a matter of performance. Alongside athletic endeavours, they have achieved much through this shared social engagement, helping to promote self-confidence in riding, and women’s health, to name two examples. This partnership not only has a successful past, but a future as well. Both adhere to the old sports adage “Never change a winning team” and look forward to many years of continued collaboration. The champion rider decides on her collaborative partners much like she chooses her horses. Because for Ingrid Klimke, riding is primarily a team sport. “You have to really know your horse”, she says, “you have to have a deep and sincere connection.” The selection and training of a horse are fundamental to success. Ingrid Klimke describes it this way: “Each horse has its own personality. It’s essential to recognise and win over this type. Equestrian sport is all about performance, that one gives their best as part of the team; both the horse and the rider must be in top form that day and show what they can do.”
The elite athlete has a clear opinion when it comes to safety: “We riders bear responsibility for our horses, but also for ourselves. That’s why it is important to always wear a helmet when riding.” uvex appreciates the two-time Olympic winner’s stringent quality standards. “Safety comes first, then fashion”, says Ingrid Klimke, who’s made it a habit to place her gloves inside her helmet so that her protective gear is always together in one place. She wears a uvex perfexxion for cross-country and jumping, and a uvex suxxeed for dressage. “When you spend hours in the saddle, you know the importance of a good fit and good ventilation.”
